Natural Gas

Here at GUTA we offer Operator Qualification training for the Natural Gas industry.  All classes are $125.00 except Heat Fusion which is $135.00.  If you have any specific class requests that are not currently offered, please feel free to contact us!

We offer 101, AOC, and Basic Properties of Natural Gas for a new gas technician. That are just getting started in the industry. This will instruct them in basic information needed to jump start their career.   We also offer gas classes for office personal on how to take and answer calls related to natural gas emergence’s and customer gas related calls.

Class Descriptions (Click here for more information on a class.)

Corrosion Control

Operators must establish procedures to implement and maintain a corrosion control program for their piping system. These procedures should include design, installation, operation, and maintenance activities on a cathodic protection system. A person qualified in pipeline corrosion control methods must carry out these procedures.

Valves and Regulating Devices

This chapter contains a simplified description of the pipeline safety requirements. The complete text can be found in 49 CFR Part 192.

Pressure Testing

Installation and Construction

Planning for the installation of gas piping involves many considerations, such as personnel, material, equipment, money, time, etc.  One of the most important considerations is the plan for excavating activities.

Basic Customer Service Training for Field and Office Personnel

When making contact with customers, company personnel, in the field or office, must exemplify professional and courteous behavior that generates confidence in the company.

Tapping and Stopping

Meter Sets

Leak Investigation

Locating and Damage Prevention

Gas Pipeline Operations

Identifying Basic Installation Methods for Mains and Transmission Pipelines

It is essential for gas system operating personnel to know and understand the basic installation methods for mains and transmission pipelines.

Recognize and React to Generic Abnormal Operating Conditions

One of the best means of avoiding an emergency situation when recognizing and reacting to abnormal operating conditions is to be able to recognize, respond and control potential hazards.

Install Customer Gas Service Lines

It is essential that customer gas service lines be properly installed to ensure safe and efficient service to the customer.

Verifying Excavating and Backfilling Operations That Minimize Excavation Damage to Pipeline Facilities

It is essential that establishing procedures and processes be followed to protect excavation and private citizens from injury and to guard the integrity of buried pipelines and other underground facilities.

Identifying Basic Properties of Fuel Gases

The procedures and operations done by you as a worker in the natural gas industry are more safely performed with a knowledge of the physical, chemical, and combustion properties of fuel gases.

Identifying Basic Properties of Natural Gas and Responding to a Customer-Reported Smell of Gas

All persons involved in activities related to the distribution and services of natural gas are accepting a role that is critical to its safe and efficient use.  Therefore, it is important that you acquire a basic knowledge of the properties of natural gas and acceptable work practices when responding to a customer-reported smell of gas.

Identify Good Practices for Customer Service

When making contact with customers, company personnel in the field or in the office must exemplify professional and courteous behavior that generates confidence in the company.

Identify Procedures Basic to Inspecting, Applying, and Repairing Pipeline Coatings

The pipeline coating is the most integral part of a cathodic protective system.  Without the proper use of pipeline coatings, a cost effective corrosion control program cannot be maintained.  In this class you will learn how to inspect and repair pipeline coatings.

Install Test Leads to Monitor and Control External Corrosion

Natural gas facilities use effective and practical methods to evaluate and monitor cathodically protected pipelines.  These methods may vary depending on the type and location of facilities. It is essential for natural gas employees to understand the basic concepts of monitoring these protected pipelines.

Perform Patrol and Leakage Surveys on Gas Pipeline Facilities

Detecting the presence of natural gas is an important operation performed by workers in the natural gas industry.

Prevent Accidental Ignition/Recognize and React to Abnormal Operating Conditions.

An important consideration when working around gas facilities is the possibility of accidental ignition and the extinguishing of gas fires that might be ignited.  To complete this module you will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the task, preventing accidental ignition.recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions.
